Last spring, we installed a beehive on the roof of one of our buildings. We were sure the bees would thrive here, with all the surrounding fields and woods.
The 14 kg will be distributed to our tenants in the coming months so they can taste it, and perhaps decide to visit the hive. Each of the 15 winners of the impromptu lottery at our annual barbecue last June will also receive their own jar…
Our colony has developed well and been productive thanks to the excellent care of Hunnegkescht, who took care of everything. The population was so well established that one of our boxes was even used to boost another hive. Indeed, when a hive shows a drop in productivity, as Hugo Zeller explained to us, we can take a box from a hyperactive hive to help the weaker one regain its strength.
So the results are very positive for this first year.
As for the 5 kg of spring honey, since it’s a less flavorful and fragrant product, it will be used in cooking to sweeten dishes or pastries with natural sugar.
Fortunately, nothing goes to waste.
